PhotoCenter Closed: Thursday, January 1. Happy New Year!

Image Management 101 Workshop: 6:30– 9 p.m. Friday, January 9. The basics! Learn how to size images to print and for the web, cropping, basic color management, printing tips and much more!

Members: $35
Non-Members: $60

Advanced Lighting 102 Workshop: noon–6 p.m. Saturday, January 10. Enhance your on location lighting skills with this hands-on intense workshop. We will arrive at our Troy location to work with mixed lighting. Bring your cameras and tripods, if you have. Models will be provided.

Members: $65, including modeling fee
Non-Members: $85

Dinner Night: 6:30–9 p.m. Monday, January 12. Members must RSVP for dinner, limited to the first 12 reservations. New Year's traditional (Katy Style) corned beef and cabbage with extras.

C.A.M.E.R.A Meeting: 7–8 p.m. Tuesday, January 13. This free event is open to anyone who has an interest in vintage and or modern cameras!

Drop Off Deadline for the Best of 2008: Friday, January 16. Bring your selected prints ready to hang. Bring sooner during open hours, if you can.

The Ballet Workshop: noon–5 p.m. Saturday, January 17. This is a great opportunity to photograph the lines of ballet, the grace, the action. We will be traveling to a dance studio in Albany to photograph dancers doing what they do best. There will be an array of costumes, locations and lighting for you to capture the beauty of this art form.

Photo Council Meeting: 7–8 p.m. Monday, January 19. This free event is open to anyone who has an interest in vintage and or modern cameras!

Salon Night: 6:30–8 p.m. Tuesday, December 20. Get inspired! Show us what you have been exploring with your photographic endeavors. Bring five to 15 prints or digital files to receive a peer critique and create some conversation about your next project.

Best of 2008 Show Opening: 6–9 p.m. Friday, January 23. This will showcase photographers’ and members’ finest work of 2008.

Best of 2008 Show Opening Reception: 5–9 p.m. Friday, January 30. Free and open to the public. Coincides with Troy Night Out.

December Highlights

Studio Lighting 101 Workshop: December 13. The studio offers many opportunities to broaden your photographic skills. This workshop started at square one, demonstrating lighting control for enhancing portraits and dramatizing products.

November Highlights

The Work of Ken Ragsdale Opening: November 7.

Matting and Framing Workshop: October 18. The ins and outs of presenting your work, including dry mounting, matting, framing, and laminating.

Charise Isis Boudoir Workshop: October 25. Her techniques for creating seductive and sensual boudoir photography.

Special Burlesque and Halloween Gala: October 31 during Troy Night Out. V.I.P Burlesque and Boudoir Private Photo Event following.

September 2008 Highlights

Special High Dynamic Range HDR Workshop: September 27; conducted by award-winning master of the technique Robert Near. Included demonstrations, shooting, hands-on computer use.

August 2008 Highlights

Introduction to Photoshop Elements Workshop: August 14; We broke down the overly complex and simplified it to be practical for everyday use.

Bananafish, a new short film: Independent filmmaker Frank Ciatto, actor/screenwriter/director, presented his latest film on August 29.

July 2008 Highlights

Ultimate Lighting Challenge Workshop: July 17; the unique ins and outs of using an array of lighting possibilities from constant bulbs, daylight, to mixed and strobe lighting.

Scavenger Hunt: Here was a great opportunity to show off your creativity with the PhotoCenter’s First Photo Scavenger Hunt. Space is limited

How To Pose Your Model on Location Workshop: July 26; Participants worked with two models with guidance tp solve the challenges.

June 2008 Highlights

How To Pose Your Model Workshop: June 12; Director Katherine Wright repeated this ever-popular Workshop.

Figure Study on Location Workshop: June 14, an on-location investigation of the body in nature. Models were provided.

Photo Presentation Workshop: June 19; unique ways to present your photos from matting and framing to the beginnings of bookbinding by Director Katy.

Movie Night: June 23; Katy and Lady Night celebrated Katy Wright’s birthday and Lady Ostapeck’s current major exhibition in Finland.

How to Shoot a Model on Location Workshop: June 28; models to work with throughout the day.

May 2008 Highlights

“Projection” Workshop: Thursday, May 15, 6:00–9 p.m. Innovative ways to depict the body.

Buying a digital camera Workshop: April 10 taught by Photo Center staff.

How To Pose Your Model Workshop: April 17, taught by Katherine Wright.

March 2008 Highlights

Workshops: The Photo center hosted Workshops every Thursday by master Photo Shopper Jim Craner.

There were two sessions for an introduction to digital processing:
March 6 — Getting Started with Photoshop Elements
March 13 — Basic Editing in Photoshop Elements

These were followed by two sessions for specialized functions:
March 20 — Creating Websites and Actions in Photoshop CS3
March 27 — Creating Smart Objects and Websites in Photoshop CS3

There was another event on March 27 when Jennifer Gardner conducted a Workshop on Polaroid Transfer and Emulsion Lift.

February 2008 Highlights

Travelogue on Tuscany: Tips on Travel Photography presentation by Photo center staff.

Studio Lighting for Portraits Workshop: Member Scott Haller, recent graduate of extensive Workshops on portraiture, shared his experience.

Photoshop Alternatives: Demonstration by Photo center staff.

Printer Control Workshop: Conducted by experienced master printers Jim Craner and Frank Bumbardatore.
